Wanna learn how to shoot timelapses? Here’s how:

1. You need camera, tripod, and intervalometer, frame your shot and don’t bump it while your shooting

2. You’re setting your camera to shoot many photos in sequence, but the interval between shots depends on the effect you want. For clouds / sunsets or sunrises, a few seconds in between works well, but play around with it. @photopills has a pretty legit intervalometer tool to help you get this dialled.

3. Shoot your photos, these Timelapse’s were about 300 shots each. Trimmed and cut into a shorter clip.

4. Make your basic edits in @lightroom or wherever you edit, and export all images to the same folder, with a sequence suffix in the name formatting of all the images. Eg. ReallyNeatClouds-0001.tif

5. Open @photoshop and find the folder you’ve exported to, open > find your folder, select only the first image, and then tick off “Image Sequence”, open.

6. If you want to colour grade or adjust before exporting, you can make adjustments.

7. Export > Render Video

8. Boom - you’ve got a Timelapse.

9. If you want to open it into premiere and add keyframes, motion and zooms etc to the clip, lemme know and I’ll give yah another tip!

What’s blue, can fly, and doesn’t care too much for comets?

This blue heron just vibing.

The C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) comet has been annoyingly difficult to shoot from Vancouver, because we keep getting socked in every sunset.

I was able to rip out last night after seeing what looked like a small opening in the clouds for a slim chance at some visibility to shoot it.

Hopped in the car, ripped to a spot I thought would work, and quickly setup to locate it between the clouds & compose a shot. Then I noticed this Blue Heron perched on this ledge, entirely unaware of the comet making its close to earth approach on its 80,000 year orbit. (His loss!) But thanks for making this last minute shot a bit more interesting dood! 🐦 🫶🏻

Defff not the comet shot I was envisioning shooting, and really hoping for some better weather windows to get a more complete Timelapse, but this will have to do for now!

Any idea how I got a shot like this?

I was out to try and shoot the comet the other night, but didn’t have any luck because of the clouds on the horizon. So instead played around with a vibey way to shoot the sunset.

How much moon, is too much moon? .. this much moon

How much moon, is too much moon? .. this much moon. Jus kidding, you can hang 🌝

This one has been somewhat of a bucket list shot for me, south facing and Aurora don’t usually mix too well here in Vancouver, as our auroras usually need a good chunk of north facing horizon. But with Thursday’s CME looking to be on par to the one in May, I thought there could be a chance, even with the aggressive 40% moon glow.

So I had a backup spot in mind I knew would be decent enough if WhyteCliff was a total bust, but wanted to spend a bit of time to see what I could get.

Definitely no dazzling or dancing Auroras here, because of the moon, but shooting the Aurora (even a faint portion) overtop of Whytecliff park is an epic one to add to the bag.

Hopefully get a few more chances at this one over the next year!

Lots more of epic shots to come though. Auroragram is back, and can’t get enough of it! 🫶🏻🤓

Been a bit sick last few days, so didn’t have the energy to stay out late, so I’m very stoked to have seen them from home early! Looks like it was a pretty epic night though.
